The Laguna de Apoyo is a place of outstanding natural beauty set midway between Granada and Masaya. We are situated on the shores of a 200m deep volcanic lake deep with crystal clear water............ it is the perfect place to get away from it all.

Birds - squirrel cuckoo, northern oriole, blue-crowned and turquoise-browed motmot, magpie jay, ringed kingfisher, great kiskadee, turkey vulture, black vulture, blue heron, boat-billed flycatcher, collared aracari, hummingbirds, colonies of  crested oropendolas. 

 

Day trips run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and are available to anybody wanting to go. See below for details.

Overnight guests do not pay the entrance fee. All facilities are included in the price.

 Children (under 4 years) are free of charge.
Check out is at 11 am. If you wish to stay at The Monkey Hut and use the facilities beyond this time there is a $3.00 surcharge per person.

HOUSE RENTAL

The Monkey Hut is the ideal place for a private family get-together or a party venue for you and your friends. The kitchen is fully equipped for all your needs. In addition we have a barbecue pit if you want to throw something on the grill. The house has three double rooms and a dorm that sleeps six and we have recently added "la cabaņa" which sleeps up to four persons. The house is available for rent for single or multiple nights starting at $230 per night. For more details please contact THE MONKEY HUT at 552-7956- 887-3546

TRANSPORTATION TO THE MONKEY HUT

 From Granada:

A truck leaves from The Bearded Monkey: Monday, Wednesday & Friday mornings at 10:30am and/or when there is sufficient demand. The truck returns at 6pm. The sign-up sheet is on the front desk at The Bearded Monkey.

Taxi: $10 - 15

Take bus to Masaya and get off at the entrance to Laguna de Apoyo
and hitchhike/catch bus.

From Granada: Take the carretera Masaya towards Masaya and after approximately 10km, turn left for the laguna de apoyo (the curb at the entrance is painted yellow and the road goes sharply uphill). Continue straight on this road until you reach a T-junction. Turn right through the village and follow the road down to the water. At the bottom turn left and The Monkey Hut is 100m on the left.
